Exciting New Technical Training Opportunities
AkzoNobel Vehicle Refinishes is driven by an unwavering commitment to develop cutting-edge technical training programs. These programs provide technicians with the knowledge and practical skills needed to reproduce the finishes of modern vehicles safely and efficiently. We firmly believe that our customers' success is intertwined with our success as a coatings manufacturer. Consequently, we continuously innovate to meet the growing demand for convenient, effective, and adaptable training.
In line with this commitment, we are delighted to introduce new technical training paths that offer the flexibility sought by businesses while upholding the integrity of our renowned training programs. These new pathways are specifically designed to:
- Expand options for product training and I-CAR paint maker certification
- Facilitate increased training opportunities
- Adapt to evolving expectations regarding the delivery of training
- Enhance the expertise of technicians who might otherwise forego training
- Develop technicians who are exceptionally well-versed in advanced coatings technologies
To meet these evolving demands, we are excited to offer three unique technical development training paths:
Online Option
(Sikkens, Lesonal, and Valorem)
This program caters to the flexibility some of our customers desire, enabling experienced painters to complete I-CAR valid Paint Maker Certification training through a fully online, self-guided format. Successful completion of this course qualifies the student for a 2-year renewable I-CAR Paint Maker Certification.
AkzoNobel Automotive Training Center (ATC) Option
(Sikkens, Lesonal, and Valorem)
While online training has its merits, there is no substitute for in-person training at an AkzoNobel ATC. Built upon decades of continuous training improvements, our highly experienced instructors lead in-depth refinishing theory classroom sessions, complemented by real-world, hands-on application training. Completion of this intensive 3-day course grants the participant a valuable 5-year AkzoNobel Product Training Certification. This accreditation also qualifies for a 5-year I-CAR Paint Maker Certification.
Lifetime Option
(Sikkens and Lesonal)
As vehicle coatings technologies grow increasingly complex, it is imperative to equip refinish technicians with comprehensive training. Painters who undergo full training in AkzoNobel technical processes will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle these challenges. To address this need, we are thrilled to unveil an innovative career technical training path for Sikkens and Lesonal customers. This pathway not only produces fully trained technicians but also bestows a prestigious Lifetime Certified Refinish Expert Certification that is also I-CAR Paint Maker Certification valid.
The groundbreaking "Lifetime Certified Refinish Expert" status is attained by successfully completing a training path that includes both in-person training sessions and online self-guided modules.
The lifetime certification encompasses the following comprehensive curriculum:
Step 1:
- Product Training (AkzoNobel ATC location)
Step 2 – within 5 years, complete the following in any order:
- Advanced Product Training (AkzoNobel ATC location)
- Color Tinting (AkzoNobel ATC location)
- Online courses:
- Digital Color Process

Technicians who complete the above-described training will qualify for a Sikkens or Lesonal Lifetime Certified Refinish Expert status. This status also essentially provides Sikkens and Lesonal painters with a "lifetime renewable" I-CAR Paint Maker Certification. Additional program details will be forthcoming.
